• Marvel's Spider-Man 2 will feature Peter and Miles taking on a new threat, with clues suggesting that past villains will return.
  • Venom will be the main threat, as Harry Osborn claims to be cured and wants to use the symbiote to "heal the world".
  • Other villains, such as Kraven, the Lizard, Wraith, Grizzly, Black Cat, Prowler, Tombstone, Taskmaster, Shocker, Kingpin, and Mr. Negative, may also make appearances, creating a potentially epic showdown.

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 will see Peter and Miles taking on a variety of different villains over the course of the game's campaign. After two games, the superhero duo has amassed an impressive rogues gallery between them, and while they are set to take on new threats, there have been clues that suggest that many could be returning from their past as well.

Between the 11-minute gameplay preview from the May 2023 PlayStation Showcase and the new story trailer from San Diego Comic-Con, a clearer idea of Marvel's Spider-Man 2's story is forming. The panel confirmed that the game will take place nine-to-ten months after the events of Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales with even more experienced and confident versions of Peter and Miles being playable throughout the game.

14 Venom

Venom roars on a busy NYC street in Spider-Man 2's SDCC trailer

The main threat in Marvel's Spider-Man 2 seems to be Venom. The symbiote had been teased in the post-credit scenes for both of the series' previous entries as a potential cure for Harry Osborn's illness. Harry has been released from his treatment by the time the game's story begins, and claims to be cured as a result, wanting to use the symbiote to "heal the world." Unfortunately, somewhere this plan will inevitably take a turn for the worst as Peter bonds with the symbiote and abandons it upon realizing how much it is corrupting him, forcing it to bond with a new host to create the monstrous Venom.

13 Kraven

Kraven chokes a fellow hunter in a jungle environment in Marvel's Spider-Man 2

Kraven the Hunter will be bringing his "Great Hunt" to New York City in Marvel's Spider-Man 2. The PlayStation Showcase footage began with Kraven hunting a fellow hunter in the jungle, and proclaiming his boredom with hunting unworthy prey. One of his allies provided him with a tablet showing a map of New York and the various skilled, technologically enhanced, and superhuman beings that inhabit it, with the suggestion that they could finally give him the challenge he desires. Kraven and his team have then been seen with various vehicles and equipment unleashing carnage across the city during their hunt.

12 Lizard

The Lizard leaps out of the East River to attack Miles, whose spider-sense is going off in Marvel's Spider-Man 2

One of the targets of Kraven's hunt who has been shown in the PlayStation Showcase gameplay footage is Dr. Curt Connors' reptilian alter-ego, The Lizard. As revealed in the Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales post-credits sequence, Connors has been working with Norman Osborn on the treatment for Harry, and it's possible that Peter acquired the symbiote when searching for the scientist at his home in Queens at the beginning of the gameplay footage. Although Harry seems back at full health at the beginning of Marvel's Spider-Man 2's story trailer, Peter did exclaim that his friend was dying and that he needed Connors to save him when tracking down The Lizard, so his role in the game's story should be significant.

11 Wraith

Wraith emerges from a fire in Marvel's Spider-Man 2

Former police captain Yuri Watanabe's vigilante alter-ego, Wraith, will appear in Marvel's Spider-Man 2, having been shown on Kraven's list of potential prey and emerging from a burning building in the game's promotional footage. Yuri was a great ally to Peter and was his main contact within the New York Police Department, but she spiraled and began taking the law into her own hands when her squad was ambushed and massacred by Hammerhead, and an off-the-books undercover sting failed, leading to the death of another of her allies. It's been rumored that Peter and Miles will spend part of the game tracking down a vigilante serial killer that will likely be Wraith.

10 Grizzly

Grizzly in Marvel's Spider-Man 2

Grizzly appeared briefly in Marvel's Spider-Man 2's story trailer wielding a large axe, which he swings at Peter following a classic Spider-Man quip. There have been several different characters who have gone by Grizzly in the comics, but the version in Marvel's Spider-Man 2 looks likely to be Maxwell Markham, a former wrestler who donned a grizzly bear suit and exoskeleton harness to take on Spider-Man.

On the surface, Grizzly looks like he could fit in with Kraven the Hunter and his group, but it should be noted that this version of Grizzly didn't team up with Kraven in the comics and instead had ties to Norman Osborn, as Osborn recruited him to the Thunderbolts. While there seems to be no sign of the Thunderbolts in the game, it is possible that he could still have ties to Norman if the disgraced businessman calls in reinforcements to capture Lizard and Venom, as both characters could tie back to his company's experiments.

9 Mysterio

A glowing green Mysterio symbol appears above New York City, and Quentin Beck stands maskless

Mysterio's alter ego, Quentin Beck appeared in Marvel's Spider-Man 2's PlayStation's September 2023 State of Play footage. While Beck didn't seem to sport his iconic "fishbowl" helmet - which had been mimicked by an Empire State University student for a Halloween costume in Marvel's Spider-Man and therefore exists in-universe - he is wearing purple robes in what seems to be an upgrade from his traditional cape. The same footage showed that Mysterio will leave green glowing symbols around New York for the heroes, with the symbol resembling the eye designs usually spotted as clasps for his cape on his costume in other media.

8 Black Cat

Black Cat Spider-man PS4

Black Cat was one of the first to appear on Kraven's list of potential targets. Master thief, Felicia Hardy was last seen Marvel's Spider-Man's The City That Never Sleeps DLC, where she manipulated Peter into helping her take on Hammerhead's mob by implying he was the father of her son. This turned out to be a lie as Felicia had no son and was merely using the webhead for her own gain. She then went on to fake her own death but revealed to Peter she was still alive and gave him the information he needed to defeat Hammerhead before fleeing the city. Her presence on Kraven's list suggests she didn't go too far, however, and her return could be possible in Marvel's Spider-Man 2.

7 Prowler

Aaron Davis AKA Prowler from Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales

Another name with close ties to one of the Spider-Men that appeared on Kraven's list was the Prowler. Miles Morales uncle, Aaron Davis had tried to turn away from his life of crime following his brother's death in the hopes that he may be able to reconnect with his family. However, he later donned his Prowler alias to undertake some work for the unethical Simon Krieger and the Roxxon Corporation throughout Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales.

By the end of the game, he showed up as the Prowler to help people evacuate before the Nuform reactor exploded. He then turned himself in and was able to reduce his sentence to two years by whistleblowing about Krieger, and thanked Miles for making him a better person. With Marvel's Spider-Man 2 taking place nine months later, it's possible that he will still be in prison at this time, but given the mended relationship between him and Miles, he still may have a presence in the game.

6 Tombstone

Tombstone Spider-Man PS4

Tombstone was another villain from the first Marvel's Spider-Man game who appeared on Kraven's list, although the events of that game may make Kraven deem him to be unworthy prey and not worth his time. At the end of the Tombstone side missions in Marvel's Spider-Man, Peter was able to devise a cure for his indestructible skin, making him mortal before handing him over to the police. If Kraven doesn't deem him to be challenging enough as a result, it's possible that Tombstone may not return, making his appearance on the list an Easter egg instead.

5 Taskmaster

Taskmaster stands with an orange sword in Marvel's Spider-Man.

Kraven's map hinted that Taskmaster would still be roaming New York City after the events of Marvel's Spider-Man. This makes sense as he was never apprehended, and simply vanished after being defeated by Spider-Man. Therefore, it's possible that he may still be leaving challenges around the city and observing both Peter and Miles to learn their techniques in Marvel's Spider-Man 2.

4 Shocker

Shocker Insomniac Spider-Man

Shocker had a very quick appearance on Kraven's map before the camera cut away to Kraven's reaction. While Peter did apprehend him following an attempted bank heist in Marvel's Spider-Man, it's possible that he may break out of custody again. If so, with Peter donning the symbiote suit in Marvel's Spider-Man 2, Insomniac would have set up everything it needs to recreate an infamous scene from the 90s animated series.

3 Kingpin

Wilson Fisk AKA Kingpin meeting Miles Morales for the first time in Marvel's Spider-Man Miles Morales

Another Spider-Man foe who Kraven might not deem worthy despite appearing on his list is Wilson Fisk, aka. Kingpin. Fisk got what Yuri deemed the "V.I.P. treatment" upon his rest and was sent to the RAFT supermax prison, although an appearance in Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales showed that this didn't stop him from attempting to pull the strings remotely from within his cell. The list appeared to cycle through every major character incarcerated at the RAFT, which is likely why Fisk's name appeared. Fisk made for a decent opening boss fight in Marvel's Spider-Man, but it's likely that Kraven wouldn't see him as much of a physical threat when compared to the likes of Lizard or Venom.

2 Mr. Negative

Martin Li returns in Spider-Man 2's SDCC trailer

The San Diego Comic-Con panel confirmed the return of another RAFT inmate: Mr. Negative. Martin Li was one of the main antagonists of the first Marvel's Spider-Man game and was responsible for the terrorist attack that killed Jefferson Davis. Nadji Jeter confirmed that Miles will finally get to confront Li about the death of his father for the first time since he got his powers and that the moment is extremely emotionally charged. It appears that Li is wearing his orange RAFT inmate jumpsuit in the clip from the story trailer, indicating that Kraven may attack the super-prison directly.

1 The Rest of the Sinister Six

The Sinister 6 team up on the RAFT in Marvel's Spider-Man concept art

If Kraven were to attack the RAFT as part of his hunt, there's certainly the potential for more villainous appearances. Aside from Martin Li, the remainder of the Sinister Six resides in the prison, and Doc Ock, Scorpion, Rhino, Electro, Vulture were all shown momentarily on Kraven's list as it cycled through the prison's inmates. If so, Marvel's Spider-Man 2 could see a huge redux of the RAFT breakout sequence from the first game, with Peter and Miles caught in the crosshairs of several of their most powerful foes.
