Farming the correct materials for Wriothesley’s character Ascension in Genshin Impact may be a time-consuming feat, but one that may prove useful in the long run, as the hero shapes up to be a unique DPS. Wriothesley was announced as a character for Genshin Impact 4.1, along with Neuvillette. Contrary to the Chief Justice of Fontaine, however, he had not yet been introduced as an NPC. Nevertheless, Wriothesley has now made his debut as both an NPC and a playable character. At launch, he is unique, as Wriothesley is the first character to have a Cryo catalyst combination, essentially meaning he can use Elemental powers seamlessly with his Normal Attacks.
All other weapon categories either require the usage of a Skill, Burst, or special mechanic to see Elemental powers come to the field, whereas catalysts can easily apply the element without actually having to use those resources. This makes Wriothesley valuable as a character, as the way he deals Cryo damage in Genshin Impact can be a boon for teams centered around the element. Superconduct and permafreeze team comps can largely benefit from Wriothesley’s constant application of Cryo and, combined with certain characters, he can consistently wreak icy havoc. Before doing that, however, you need to go through his character Ascension and level all his Talents to optimize damage output.
Materials For Wriothesley’s Ascension In Genshin Impact
The first set of resources that you will need to farm for Wriothesley’s character Ascension is Shivada Jade. The Slivers, Fragments, Chunks, and Gemstones are those of a Cryo character, so if you have previously worked on a hero with that element, such as Ganyu or Ayaka Kamisato, it is likely you have some leftovers.
Nevertheless, you can farm these Shivada Jade materials from Cryo opponents, like Cryo Regisvines and the Wolf of the North weekly boss fight in Genshin Impact. Not too many are needed, and these are hardly the most troublesome resources to farm, as they can also be bought from the store and are rewarded through events.
The second batch of materials you need to farm is Meshing Gear and its evolutions, Mechanical Spur Gear and Artificed Dynamic Gear, respectively. These materials drop almost exclusively from mechanical Clockwork Meka constructs in Fontaine. These creatures can be found both above ground and underwater in Genshin Impact. Opponents like the Assault Specialist Mek and the Underwater Patrol Mek are common sources of these materials. While the Ascension process itself does not demand too much, you will need to farm a surplus of these, as they are also required abundantly for Wriothesley’s Talents.
This set of items is also used in Lynette’s Ascension in Genshin Impact, so if you have already leveled her, you may have some in stock.
The third material needed for Wriothesley’s Ascension is a Local Speciality called Subdetection Unit. These items were added with Version 4.1, so you could not pre-farm these prior to the update’s release. These are located in the areas north of the Court of Fontaine in Genshin Impact, namely the New Fontaine Research Institute and the Central Laboratory Ruins.
Nearly 170 are needed, so you will need to follow some farming routes to optimize your gains. The last item needed is called Tourbillon Device, and this drops from the world boss Experimental Field Generator. To get the required amount, you will need to challenge the opponent a few times.
The table below lists all the necessary Ascension materials for Wriothesley, divided by all the level thresholds:

Of course, another resource needed for this process is not a material per si, but money. You will only need 420,000x Mora to get through all of Wriothesley’s Ascensions, but a lot more will be demanded when leveling the character’s Talents in Genshin Impact. The Ascension process is the easiest part of building a character, as not too much farming is required.
All Of Wriothesley’s Talent Materials In Genshin Impact
To unlock the complete potential of Wriothesley’s base power, you will need to fully level the character’s Talents, the official name for his abilities. The first set of materials to farm is the surplus of Meshing Gear, Mechanical Spur Gear, and Artificed Dynamic Gear. A vast amount is needed for each of his Talents in Genshin Impact, so you should be eliminating all the Clockwork Meka you stumble upon. The second set of materials for Wriothesley is the Talent books, Teachings of Order, Guide to Order, and Philosophies of Order. These items can be farmed at the Pale Forgotten Glory domain. Its entrance can be found underwater, northeast of Poisson.
The last set of important items, other than the three Crowns of Insight and nearly 5 million Mora needed, is Primordial Greenbloom. This drops from the Guardian of Apep’s Oasis in Genshin Impact. As this is a weekly boss fight with a cap on challenges, it may take a while to gather the necessary amount to max out Wriothesley’s Talents. The table below lists all the necessary materials to fully level all three of the Cryo character’s abilities:

Farming to fully level Wriothesley and his Talents can be a time-consuming endeavor, but one that pays off with the character’s high damage output and consistent Cryo application. His singular powers combined with the proper team comp and solid build can transform him into a threat to any opponent, no matter how big. You will, however, want to Ascend Wriothesley in Genshin Impact before thinking about that.
