Keanu Reeves reprises the role of John Constantine in a new Constantine 2 fan trailer as he takes on a new supernatural threat. Despite coming out in 2005, Reeves' Constantine franchise is seemingly moving forward as a sequel is in the works based on DC's Hellblazer. In September 2022, it was announced that Constantine 2 is in development, with director Francis Lawrence coming back to direct the sequel while Akiva Goldsman is returning to pen the screenplay.

It has been over a year since the initial update about Constantine 2 dropped, and there have been little to no updates about the second installment. While the world is waiting to hear more about Constantine 2, Styrder HD released a fan trailer for the sequel, serving as a proof-of-concept about what Reeves' next movie could be.

The Constantine 2 fan trailer picks up years after the original movie, showing where he is today and some of the threats he could be facing in this scenario. In addition to that, the Constantine 2 fan trailer also pitches Alexandra Daddario as the iconic DC heroine, Zatanna, who is one of Constantine's closest allies in the comics.

Is Constantine 2 Actually Happening?

Keanu Reeves as John Constantine

While the Writers Guild of America strike has definitely prevented new updates about Constantine 2, since it concluded a few weeks ago, it is still unclear what is going on with the sequel. Even though a new DC Universe is on its way, there will still be new Elseworlds movies, and that is supposedly where Constantine 2 fits in. But like with many major Hollywood movies, Constantine 2 could be another lost project as it may have been quietly canceled.

One possibility is that DC Studios might be trying to find a way to incorporate Reeves' Constantine into James Gunn's DC Universe rather than make it an Elseworlds story. Theoretically, Constantine 2 could easily take place in the DC Universe, especially if the franchise is aiming to include figures that previously may have been considered too eccentric or tonally different for the DCEU. Having the Constantine movies be canon to the DC Universe can also be a way to work other supernatural DC characters into Reeves' story and even set up something like Justice League Dark at last.

With someone as famous and beloved as Reeves, having him as Constantine in a DC Universe - and thus able to interact with other DC heroes and villains - would only be a plus for the upcoming continuity. It would also be intriguing to see a Constantine who is older than someone like David Corenswet's Superman, allowing the DC Universe to further explore the idea of heroes who predate the Man of Steel. For now, however time will tell what is going on with Constantine 2, and if it's even being pursued at this point by Warner Bros Discovery and DC Studios.
